A Little Thrifting & Some New Goodies

As is my tradition, I stopped by my local thrift store on Saturday. I didn't find anything big, but I did come away with a few cute home accessories.

My haul: one heart-shaped casserole dish/pie plate from Crate & Barrel, a ceramic trophy vase and two matching ginger jars. Yesterday I took one of the ginger jars and grabbed some Krylon copper spray paint we had in the garage to give it a quick makeover.

Do you think I should do the same thing with the other ginger jar or try something different?

While at the thrift store, I spied these two end tables that hinged from the top so you can display stuff inside. Wouldn't they be cool with a coat of paint and some graphic fabric inside? They were too pricey for my taste right now but I'm going to keep my eye on them.

We also have a small new addition to the built-in bookshelves in the den. I love free souvenirs, so I grabbed these two granite-like rocks from the lake shore in Oklahoma last weekend to use as bookends. They will always remind us of our third anniversary!

We went to the Wisteria warehouse sale on Saturday, but I didn't find anything. My mom, however, visited the sale after me and managed to talk the price down to $36/each (from $185/each) for a pair of parsons chairs with grey-washed wooden legs. I'm going to use them at the ends of our dining table. They were only upholstered with thin muslin because they are meant to be custom upholstered after purchase, so they are currently at getting a makeover from my mom's favorite upholstery guy. I'm looking forward to seeing how those come out!

Shoot me any ideas you have about that second ginger jar! I'd love to do something fun with it.

  1. What about the metallic gold? Or depending upon where you put it, turquoise would look good. I think it would be fun to do another color, even though I like the copper.

  2. Wait, wait, a mother who buys chairs for you? I was robbed in that department! Haha. I love the ginger jars redo. I'd probably paint them to match.
