I'm Lacking Inspiration– Help!

Here's the deal. I'm stumped about what to do with our master bedroom. I want to do something to make it more special, but I can't figure out exactly what I should do. Inspiration is lacking.

That's where you come in! Do you have any amazing ideas?

Here's what we're working with:

Here are my initial thoughts, but I'd love to know what you think.

We inherited this wall color from the previous owner, and I was OK with it at first. Now I'm starting to think it's a little dark. We're definitely going to paint the baseboards and trim the same bright white we have in the rest of the house, but we haven't gotten to it just yet. It's on the hubby's to-do list this summer!

I want to add crown moulding in here to distinguish this room as more special than the rest of the bedrooms. I'm not sure which type, but I think it might be a simple way to add elegance.

The rug is a hand-me-down from my parents. It's nice and I like it, but it's not WOW. It gets a little lost with the wood tones of the flooring. Maybe the rug is an opportunity to bring more personality?

Here are the things we are definitely keeping in the room: bed, bedding, bench, curtains, lamps, ceiling fan. Oh and the TV, of course! We have touches of blue/green shades in the bedding and curtains, so I want to keep that serene color scheme somehow.

Hit me with your best design visions! Keep in mind we don't have a big budget and we'd like to keep or re-purpose most of what we have in the room. What small changes could we make that would have a big impact? I think we probably will end up painting the walls, but I"m stumped on what color to go with. Help!

  1. Hi Miss Homebody, I've been reading your blog for a while & Luv it :) You always have great decorating sense! However they say when it comes to our own homes it's very difficult to see since we're emotionally attached. I would have to say you might want to change out your light fixture to something Elegant & Drippy. (I know you'll loose the fan on hot days but....) This could really change the feeling of your room for starters. Cheers, Tami

    1. Thanks Tami! I really would love to have a chandelier in our room, but the husband is completely against losing the ceiling fan. To be fair, it gets VERY hot in Texas. But a chandelier would be so much prettier... Sigh. I am thinking about adding a "drippy" pendant light to one part of the room, so maybe that will help!

  2. Ooops after re-reading your items to "stay" I see you had the ceiling fan on there duh I was in a hurry lol. Crown moulding is an excellent idea & changing out the rug will change everything. I've been watching http://www.youtube.com/user/robesondesign on youtube & she has so many wonderful ideas. Her latest video was on crown moulding etc. Have fun, Tami

  3. Perhaps painting or stenciling a pretty border around the wall edges of the floor....be brave! Paint/change the color of the dressers and add some more elegant drawer pulls. Add some interest to your window with a twisted fabric swag. A smaller lamp (maybe something a lil drippy?) with some loved chotskies might soften things a bit.
    Good luck!
