Housewarming/Hostess Gifts

It was such a lovely, football-less weekend. Well, technically we watched a lot of college and pro football, but Scott's team had a bye-week so he was actually home much more than usual. We both got oil changes, what a miracle!

Anyway, I wanted to share my latest art piece with you. I wanted to create some artwork for our friends' new home, so I just finished a watercolor painting of their two adorable daughters. I found a great photo from my friend's Facebook page and used that as my inspiration.

Here's the action shot:

I'm happy to report that they loved the painting!
This project got me thinking about good housewarming presents. Scott and I joked when we bought our house that the best housewarming present for any new homeowner (especially those who bought a fixer-upper) would be this:

Lowe's

Seriously, our shop-vac is the MVP of our household. We use that thing constantly!

In all seriousness, what makes a fantastic housewarming gift? I have seen some really clever, thoughtful housewarming ideas on Pinterest.

I love this idea from Martha Stewart. You could fill it with so many different useful items for the new homeowners.

This is very simple gift that any hostess or new homeowner would love, a wine bottle wrapped with a great dishtowel.

Kate at Centsational Girl made her own cutting boards. I think that would be a fabulous gift, too. I have many friends who would love a Texas-shaped cutting board!

How about gifting the new homeowners with a set of custom DIY coasters? Everyone needs coasters!

When I threw my friend a baby shower back in July, she gave me a really cute present that was similar to the wine bottle/dish towel idea. She bought a tube of Sprinkles cupcake mix and wrapped it with a really cute oven mitt.

The possibilities for housewarming/hostess gifts are endless, and everyone loves receiving a creative, thoughtful gift. Just like handwritten thank you cards, I feel like housewarming and hostess gifts are somewhat forgotten and really leave a positive impression on people.

What about you– do you have a go-to housewarming or hostess gift? I'd love to get more ideas!
