Our Newly Renovated Bathroom!

If you've been following this blog for awhile, you know that we started the bathroom renovation a few weeks back. It was a little bit slowgoing because we were doing everything ourselves and we had some trips planned during that time span. Anyway, I'm so excited to reveal it to you!

(In the interest of full disclosure, we still aren't completely done. We need to touch up some paint and grout the floors, but I couldn't wait any longer to show you. I wanted to post the pics before we left on our next trip today!)

When we bought the house, the bathroom looked like this:

I call it 3D: dark, dated, dingy. There was a red vanity, brown mirror/medicine cabinet, white linoleum floors, a wooden toilet seat, and some terrible, terrible lighting. It was so dark in the shower that we started using a clear shower curtain so the light from above the sink would filter into the shower area.

We fixed the lighting/venting problem back around Thanksgiving. (It's really not that cool for guests to have to use a bathroom that doesn't vent, you know?) Then we started collecting pieces for our new bathroom. We got a new vanity, bathtub and toilet. My parents gave us some leftover travertine tile for the floors, and we used a mirror we had in the garage that has been traveling around with me from my college house.

Now, the bathroom looks like this:

Scott commissioned me to make some artwork with "a tree and some words." This piece is made with scrapbook paper, Mod Podge and scrabble pieces.  I'll tell you a little more about it in my next blog post. Update: Collage Tutorial HERE.

As for the bathroom, we're in love! Scott is really, really in love because this is his bathroom and he did the entire thing himself. (My dad and brother helped out when they were in town, and we are very grateful.)

We're really happy that our guests now have a nice place to be when they visit. The tub is nice and deep, which is valuable since it's the only bathtub in the house. The curved shower curtain makes a huge difference in how big the shower feels, so we love that. All in all, we are so pleased with how the bathroom came out. In fact, I'm a little jealous so I'm guessing you'll see updates to my bathroom soon! :)
