How Now, Brown House?

I have been dreaming of two things as long as I can remember.

1. Marrying prince charming
2. Buying a house

The summer of 2010 was pretty fantastic because I was able to check both items off the list! I met Prince Charming when I was pretty young--16 years old-- and finally married him at the ripe old age of 24. While hubby was busy doing this (he's the quarterback, #6, purple team), I was busy working full time, going to grad school and tucking some money away for #2 on the list. By the time he had retired from playing and proposed to yours truly, I had managed to hoard a tiny little down payment (yay, FHA loan!) for our first place.

It was perfect timing- the government was giving away $8k for first time homebuyers and we needed a place to live! We started house hunting in January, and I was confident we would find one right away. We needed to have the contract accepted by the end of April to qualify for the tax credit, but I didn't think that deadline was ever in danger. In the end, we made three (maybe four?) offers on houses, all of which were rejected. Apparently every first-time homebuyer in Dallas Fort Worth wanted the same houses we did and had more money! (Ok, not really, but that's what it felt like.)

I gave up and started looking at rental properties when my realtor called at 7 p.m. on April 29. A house had just come on the market less than an hour before. It was in our ideal neighborhood and he thought we would really like it. We drove over there, walked in and wanted it immediately. We stood in the driveway, signed the offer on the back of our realtor's car and crossed our fingers. Were we really going to find a house on the last day of the tax credit?! YES!! God is good, seriously.

Here she is, in all of her glory, the day we bought her:
